When I first heard of The Outsiders, I have to admitt, it didn’t get me running to the videostore. I actually thought it sounded a bit boring and stock, but eventually I stumbled upon a review by a guy who in the past had shown to have pretty much the same taste in movies as myself, so I thought to myself that I really should see it. After all, it’s been stamped a classic and even if I didn’t like it, at least I could say that I’ve seen it. And much to my surprise, when the end credits started to roll, I had to fight to keep the tears back.
Francis Coppola had taken this novel by S.E Hinton and created a timeless masterpiece. The heart-gripping story about the Greasers confrontational lives against the Socs and the struggle that Ponyboy Curtis (C. Thomas Howell) and Johnny Cade (Ralph Macchio) endures after that fateful night with the attack and the way they face the fire, saving the children.. Needless to say, I was forever a changed man after watching this movie.
I have to say to you all that, if you haven’t seen this movue, I highly recommend that you do. After watching the amazing performances from Matt Dillon, Patrick Swayze, C. Thomas Howell, Ralph Macchio and Rob Lowe along with the rest of the immensely talented cast and crew, the artistry of Coppola’s legendary filmmaking and the beautiful story about teenage-life gone awry, you will be left with a heartache and a tear in the corner if your eye, but also with a bigger understanding about life outside your own comfortzone.
Think about it!
Until next time…
