Ok… so, as a former boxer myself and a huge fan of both Sylvester Stallone and Robert De Niro, this is a movie I’m actually REALLY excited about. Yeah sure, it’s not going to be another hit (no pun intended) like Rocky or Raging Bull, but hey, it’s a comedy.. Don’t put that kind of pressure on it. See it for what it is and enjoy it… that’s what I’m gonna do!
Anywho, the story follows two old rivals (Stallone as Henry ‘Razor’ Sharp and De Niro as Billy ‘The Kid’ McDonnen), who are pitted against each other once again, 30 years after their last fight. As we all know from Rocky Balboa, age is not an excuse to stay out of the ring, but this time it’s bound to be a few hilarious missteps, breaks and old puns thrown around, just for the sake of it being ridiculous.
As we all know, both Stallone and De Niro have a background in playing boxers (Stallone a bit more extensive, though), so I’m guessing it’s not by chance that the two were chosen for the parts.
The movie was co-written by Tim Kelleher (First Kid, Rock me, Baby), Doug Ellin (Phat Beach, Kissing a Fool) and Rodney Rothman ($5.15/Hr., Early Bird) and directed by Peter Segal (Tommy Boy, Get Smart). Its release-date is set for the 25th of December, making it (for me) the Christmas-movie of the year.
And that’s it for now… hope you’ll enjoy it, I know I will!
