Holiday-a-Thon #15 Gnomes (1980)

Gnomes posterThis must be one of the greatest things about my childhood. The 1980 animation Gnomes is based on the the book by the same name by The Dutch authors Wil Huygen and Rien Poortvliet. This film about a family of forest gnomes being harassed by a family of trolls was my favorite movie as a kid and even though I must’ve watched it a thousand times over the years, it’s just as good now as it was back then. There’s just something about it that makes me feel good and I’m pretty damn sure I’m not the only one holding it close to heart.

The movie was shown on SVT (Swedish Television) every year around the holidays but due to a copyright issue after the production company shut down, the network wasn’t able to show it anymore. However, the Norwegian company CCV stepped in and took charge, giving the film a Swedish DVD-release on December 1st, 2010, allowing any and all to enjoy the gnome/troll-antics again.

This film is a strong contender for my definitive Top5, but a guaranteed spot…. I don’t know, I think I’m gonna have to watch some more Christmas movies before I make up my mind. So with that in mind, tune in again tonight for some thoughts on yet another Holiday themed bonanza. But until then…..

About hanktango

This is not a serious movie review-blog. I do not review movies in a fashion that certified critics would. I think about stuff when I watch movies, and then write about those thoughts I had during the movie. I sometimes also think about other stuff related to movies, like castings, sequels and a whole bunch of other stuff. Sometimes, I even think about video games and then write about that. The only thing that's really specific to my writing, is that I write to you in the same way I would talk to you about all this stuff. So please, enjoy my writings, and if you were to get offended by anything, I would suggest you unravel that bunched up pantyhose you have stuck up your butt and stop being so sensitive, because honestly... that's Your problem, not anyone elses.
