Arthur Christmas, the youngest son of the current Santa Claus, is sent on a mission together with Grandsanta, his grandfather, to deliver a misplaced present. Yeah, that sounds hysterical…… and it is! everything about this film is magnificent. The animation, the story (I just love the way they deliver a perfectly acceptable explanation for How it all works, with Santa doing all he does in one night etc. Just a fantastic way of keeping the legend alive), everything. Just a perfect Christmas animation from start to finish. I just love the way they deliver a perfectly acceptable explanation for How it all works, with Santa doing all he does in one night etc. Just a fantastic way of keeping the legend alive. The voice acting, however, is what gives it that little extra nudge, pushing it from ‘Good’ to ‘Great’. James McAvoy’s Arthur is brilliant in every sense of the word, and paired up with Bill Nighy as Grandsanta… it just fits really really well! To anyone who haven’t seen this film yet, I strongly suggest that you do, ’cause it really is one of the best Christmas animations out there to date!
With that said, it doesn’t quite get all the way up for a spot on my Top5 but it was definitely a close call on this one. It just barely got pushed back by my 5th ringer (which you will find on the entire Top5 come Christmas Day). So, I hope I’ll see you back here again tomorrow for some thoughts on One Magic Christmas, but until then…..
