The Polar Express, the 2004 motion capture animation Christmas extravaganza! There’s really nothing negative to say about this film. Tom Hanks delivers some of his best performances ever (yeah, I said performances), showing a wide range, from the conductor through Scrooge to Santa Claus himself (he has six different performances total and they all are among his finest work….. in my opinion that is).
The film is based on the children’s book of the same name by the author Chris Van Allsburg, who in my opinion has managed to capture the very essence of Christmas…. or, at least what Christmas Should be about… as well as the magic and joy in a child’s eye during this magical holidays.
The Polar Express was written (for the screen), directed and produced by Robert Zemeckis, who is without a doubt one of the great filmmakers of our time. The man is really a talented filmmaker, capturing every tone of every scene perfectly, and he adapted the book to the screen with a brilliance that only a select few could’ve done.
A fantastic movie for the most magical of seasons. Clearly, this film earns a spot on my definitive top5, but which spot it gets… well, you’ll just gonna have to wait ’til Thursday’s post for that. Next up on my to-do is The Santa Clause, so tune in later today for some more reading fun. But until then…..
